A shot by Maureen Kelly is included in “Auspicious India” an exhibition of travel photography at Sonoma Community Center’s Gallery 212. Organized by Professor Ron Zak, the exhibit, which run September 5-26, features the work of 16 artists during a photography study program in India.
Zak, a professional photographer based in Sonoma, has been leading annual study programs abroad since 1989. (One of his pieces seen at left). He has his students immerse themselves into the new country’s culture and customs, engaging locals, documenting the environment, and capturing daily life. After each trip, their collective works are published in book form, and exhibited locally.
The Sonoma show opens with a reception on Friday, September 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. 276 E. Napa St. 938-4626.
