In late 60s Hollywood, there were two words for cool: Steve McQueen. Aggressive, macho, shamelessly chauvinistic, his persona, complete with a love for racecar driving, slipped into the role of San Francisco detective in 1969’s “Bullitt” as easy as if it was a V8 Mustang fastback.

The movies shows Monday, August 18, 7 p.m. at the Sebastiani Theatre.

Co-starring Jaqueline Bisset and Robert Vaughan, the gritty flick is best known for a 10-minute car chase in and around San Francisco; for it’s pre-CG time, one of the most exciting in movie history. With many actual city settings (several, including the double-decked Embarcadero Freeway, long gone) the crime drama plays the Sebastiani Theatre on Monday, August 18 at 7 p.m. $8. 996.2020.
