The 2014 Sonoma Nights Showcase series – events presented by the Sonoma Theatre Alliance when a major production is dark for the night – opens with a piano concert on Wednesday, July 23. Four accomplished pianists, Deborah Knapp, Jack Power, Esfir Ross and Alexia Stevens, will play selections ranging from ragtime to classical on the Community Center’s Kawai grand piano.
“A Grand Night” begins at 7 p.m. Wine and refreshments are also on the program.
Monica McKey, coordinator of the Sonoma Nights Showcase, describes the series as intimate performances showcasing regional talent in a variety of genres. “Our calendar includes music, staged readings, one-person shows, dance, and cabaret acts,” she said, “basically anything can fit in the hall while our main stage productions are in progress.”
The Sonoma Theatre Alliance (STA), a coalition of six member theatre companies, is presenting eight major shows this year as part of its Festival of Theatre. These shows are presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons.
“The performance schedule makes it possible for STA to offer performers the opportunity to sublease Andrews Hall on ‘dark’ nights – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – to stage their own smaller shows,” McKey said. “I can’t remember the last piano concert I saw at Andrews Hall, and I’ve been here since 1981. So this is very exciting.”
Tickets to the piano concerts are $12 at svbo.org or by calling the Sonoma Community Center at 938-4626 ext. 1. Sonomatheatrealliance.org.
