Newly ordained priest coming to St. Francis Solano

Fr. Isaac helps celebrate Mass
Rev. Jose Isaac Alejandro de La Cruz, ordained Saturday by the Diocese of Santa Rosa Bishop Robert F. Vasa, will serve his first priesthood assignment as parochial vicar (or curate) at St. Francis Solano Church in Sonoma.

“My every thought is to serve the People of God in my every word and in every place and bring and show the love of God to everyone,” said Rev. de La Cruz after the June 21 Mass.

Father de la Cruz comes from Tantoyuca, Veracruz, Mexico. He is the youngest of 13 children, with eight brothers and four sisters, He is the only one of his family to enter religious life. Although a fan of sports and music as a boy, he also developed an early love for praying and reading. It was these latter hobbies that led him to know that Jesus was the way for his life.

“Fr. de la Cruz demonstrates real joy for and commitment to the gospel that’s evident in everything he does,” said Bishop Vasa said, who bestowed holy orders upon de la Cruz at St. Eugene Cathedral in Santa Rosa.

“The ordination of a man to the priesthood is an occasion of great joy for a diocese and for a diocesan bishop,” Bishop Vasa said. “Through the priesthood a man makes a complete gift of himself to God for the sake of the Gospel and the sanctification of God’s people. This is something about which we all need to be very grateful, not only to the man for making the gift but especially to God for granting the grace of the call to priesthood.”

Father de la Cruz was ordained to the transitional diaconate in October of 2013 at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, from which he graduated in 2014.
.
He graduated from Santa Maria de Guadalupe Minor Seminary in Veracruz in 1999. He then matriculated to the Seminario Diosesano De Tuxpan Ignacio Lehonor Arroyo in Tuxpan De Rodríguez Cano, Veracruz-Llave, Mexico, where studied until in 2006. He entered Gonzaga University in Washington that same year to study English and to be a seminarian for the Diocese of Spokane.

One Response to Newly ordained priest coming to St. Francis Solano

  1. I had the privilege to be present at Father Jose Isaac De la Cruz priest’s ordination on June 21, 2014. My heart was so happy and sad at the same time. I cannot explain why my heart was sad, but I was happy because we have another Angel praying and advocating for us before our Eternal Father. God bless Fr. Jose Isaac forever.
