A preview of spring is on the calendar at Jack London State Historic Park, with two curated walks along some of the park’s 20 miles of trails.

The “Wildflower Walk,” on Saturday, March 8, is a 3.5-mile ramble of moderate difficulty beginning on the Lake trail, meandering along Quarry trail and finally winding down to Vineyard trail to the Ancient Redwood. Along the way, naturalists Deborah Large and John Lynch will point out the spring’s first wildflowers and explain how they adapted to the lack of early rain this winter.

On Sunday, March 16, guide and Park docent Jeff Falconer will lead a “Walking Meditation,” a 1.5-mile moderate hike to Jack London’s lake. Falconer will begin the journey with a brief overview of Walking Meditation, which has been used as a healing tool by many spiritual and religious traditions and is enjoyed by many who simply want to commune with nature and deepen their experience of the outdoors.

Jeff Falconer has practiced meditation for many years. He spent time at an ashram, a spiritual hermitage, in India in the early 1970s, is also a Tai Chi enthusiast, and an avid and mindful hiker.

Each of the March walks costs $10 and tickets can be purchased online or by calling 938.5216. The additional parking fee of $10 per car is collected at the entrance kiosk. Included in admission for Wildflower Walk is water and a snack, and for Meditation Walk a hand-out on meditation practice.

Hikers meet in Beauty Ranch parking lot (turn right from kiosk) at Jack London State Historic Park 2400 London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen. Jacklondonpark.com.
