County Sheriff holds community meeting

Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas will discuss public safety and law enforcement issues at a community meeting at the Sonoma Valley Grange on Tuesday, February 11. The meeting is free and open to the public, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 18627 Highway 12.

Moderated by School Board Trustee and Springs advocate Gina Cuclis, the meeting will open with a statement by the sheriff about his goals and priorities, followed by questions from the audience.

“The county sheriff is responsible for public safety in Sonoma Valley, so I hope Valley residents will take advantage of this opportunity to have an open and honest conversation with Sheriff Freitas about our public safety issues and concerns,” Cuclis said. “I know the shooting in October outside Santa Rosa of 13-year-old Andy Lopez by a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy is on everyone’s minds, but we will also focus on issues specific to Sonoma Valley.”

Now entering his third year as Sheriff, Freitas, a 26-year veteran of law enforcement, has served in many posts including Assistant Sheriff, and Windsor Chief of Police. The Grange Hall is at 18627 Highway 12, across from Mary’s Pizza. For more information, contact
