S onoma County saw a 9 percent increase in hotel occupancy in 2013 and a 5.2 percent increase in average daily rate, figures that mirrored an increase in transient occupancy taxes (TOT) collected by the county and local cities.
“Sonoma County’s hospitality industry really made strides in 2013,” said Ken Fischang, CTA, president/CEO of Sonoma County Tourism.
Sonoma County’s $1.47 billion tourism economy generated around $95 million in state and local government revenues, Fischang reported. Tourism supports almost 19,000 jobs in Sonoma County.
“Tourism continues to be an important economic driver for Sonoma County,” said Sup. David Rabbitt, chairman of the Sonoma County board of supervisors. “Not only is business coming back, people in the hospitality industry believe in the economic recovery. According to the Annual Tourism Survey of more than 300 tourism-related businesses in Sonoma County, 87 percent of businesses are ‘optimistic’ or ‘somewhat optimistic’ about their prospects in 2014.
