The Veterans of Foreign Wars Bear Flag Post 1943 and its Ladies Auxiliary will host Veterans Day activities on Monday, November 11. Members of the post will be joined by members of the Boy Scout Troop 222 at 10 a.m. for a flag retirement ceremony.
Members of the public are invited to bring their tattered or worn American flags for traditional retirement procedure, which will become a regular service offered by the post to the local community. Following the ceremony, the Ladies Auxiliary will serve a free chili luncheon to the first 150 veterans and their families; proof of service will be required.
Post Commander Dan Parker said this year’s somewhat simpler ceremony has been scheduled so that attendees can also view the Veterans Day Parade in Petaluma, which begins at 1 p.m. on Petaluma Blvd. It is the largest Veterans Day parade in Northern California and this year has over 200 entries. Organizers expect in excess of 20,000 people will attend.
