New vice principal for SVHS

Jessica Hutchinson, an expert in Advancement Via Individual Determination system (AVID) for the Napa Valley Unified School District, has been named vice principal at Sonoma Valley High School.

“Jessica clearly brings a passion for teaching and learning to Sonoma Valley High School that will align well with our school’s vision to graduate every student to be college and career ready,” said SVHS Principal Kathleen Hawing.

Hutchinson served as AVID Coordinator at Vintage High School and District AVID Elementary Liaison. AVID is a nationally recognized college readiness system for elementary through higher education that designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance.

Sonoma Valley School District Superintendent Lousie Carlomagno said Hutchinson is a great match for the district and the school. “When meeting Jessica, staff will quickly come to see her as an insightful advocate and an enthusiastic supporter as well as someone who brings a strong curricular perspective to their programs.”

Hutchinson received her Master’s in Education from Sonoma State University in 2009; her Preliminary Administrative Services Credential in 2008 from SSU; her teaching credential from CSU Sacramento with authorizations in French, U.S. Government and U.S. Civics in 2003; and her Bachelors from Dartmouth College with a double major in French and Government in 2001.

During her tenure in Napa Valley, Hutchinson also provided district trainings on AVID strategies and served as the Professional Learning Community (PLC) coach facilitating workshops on curriculum and instruction, data analysis and standards-based grading, and common assessments.

Prior to working in Napa Valley, Mrs. Hutchinson taught French and served as the World Language Department Chair at Leuzinger High School in the Centinela Valley Union High School District; and taught French at Valley High School in the Elk Grove Unified School District.

“Jessica has a reputation as an adept collaborator, an academic resource, and a problem solver, all attributes that will serve our school well,” Hawing said. “She will also be an asset in our efforts at parent and community outreach.”
