Record year for hotel tax revenue

Based on revenue from hotel room taxes, the city of Sonoma had a record year in 2012, collecting $2,632,600. The figure shows a 10.7 percent increase over 2011.

The fourth quarter of the year was also the best on record, according to a report by the Sonoma County Economic Development Board. The 25 percent increase over fourth quarter 2011 was the largest of any city in Sonoma County.

Prior annual highs for the Transient Occupancy Tax were $2.55 million in 2008, $2.55 million in 2007 and $2.39 million in 2006.

The city of Sonoma collects a 10 percent TOT from 38 lodging properties, which range in size from one to 182 rooms.
