Sonoma Stakeholders, a series of presentations on important local issues, opens May 22 with “Crime in Sonoma: What You Need to Know.” Bret Sackett, Sonoma’s chief of police, will be the speaker.
Sackett will give an overview of law enforcement services in Sonoma Valley, and examine local crime trends. His presentation will include a focus on local gang issues, the role of community policing in addressing gang activity, and partnerships with the local businesses and nonprofits for gang prevention. A Q&A period will follow.
Sonoma Stakeholders is being launched by the Chamber of Commerce. “The idea came from the boardmembers’ wanting to provide a ‘no-nonsense’ forum to promote awareness about current issues impacting Sonoma Valley and its economy,” said Chamber CEO Jennifer Yankovich.
The breakfast meetings are planned for every other month, with a different topic and speaker each month. “The topics will vary and include timely issues that are in at the forefront of the community’s collective interest,” Yankovich said.
The first session is Wednesday, May 22, 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at The Lodge. Cost is $25 for Chamber members, $35 general, and included a continental breakfast will be served. Space is limited and registration is available at 996.1033 or SonomaChamber.com.
