The Plaza horseshoe ringed with purveyors of fresh produce, fruit, flowers, crafts and ready-to-eat foods… the feel of early summer, and the sound of live music and laughter in the air… blankets stretched over green grass, picnic baskets at the ready. If it’s the first Tuesday in May, this must be the Valley of the Moon Certified Farmers Market.
Some 65 vendors in all are set for Tuesday’s opening night, which gets underway about 5:30 p.m. This will be the third year of operation by the VOMCFM, which earned a two-year extension from the city.
“The council members unanimously praised our efforts to run a successful, fair market that benefits the entire community,” said Bill Dardon VOMCFM board president. “We’re looking forward to making even more improvements in the next two years. And in the short term, look for some exciting announcements in the coming weeks.”
As the number and range of prospective vendors continues to grow, Market Manager Chris Welch said it’s a challenge to present the best lineup in the limited space. “The vendor selection committee did an outstanding job this year,” said Welsh, entering his second year on the job. “I think market patrons will be pleasantly surprised by some of our new vendors, and very happy to see many of our well-loved returning vendors.”
Performing May 7 will be the Jamie Jamison Band (pictured). Music director Oscar Mooneyhan has booked bands for every week through the market season, which ends October 29. The schedule includes three amphitheatre shows, kicking off with Train Wreck Junction on July 2.
