Hospital launches Senior Wellness program

Free classes for the “active aging” will begin in April as part of Sonoma Valley Hospital’s new Senior Wellness campaign.

The program will offer safe, supervised exercise classes overseen by the hospital’s Physical Therapy department.

“Exercise is medicine,” said Dawn Kuwahara, RN, director of Professional Services. “We know that many disease processes respond positively to exercise.”

This new wellness program utilizes a Medically Oriented Gym, a facility that moves away from the do-it-yourself fitness experience and provides its members with the opportunity to work with licensed, highly trained physical therapy staff.

The Senior Wellness Program is open Monday through Friday within the hospital. Gym hours are also available at the offsite Hand and Physical Therapy Clinic located at 19312 Hwy. 12.

As part of the membership, participants receive an initial evaluation by a physical therapist and are set up with an individualized exercise program. The program also offers group classes and educational seminars. For more information, contact Linda Ingles, PTA, at 935.5043 or Dawn Kuwahara, RN, at 935.5469.
