Adding the musical spice to the gumbo that is the third annual Meadowcroft Wines Mardi Gras Party will be Rhythmtown Jive, a six-piece horn band playing New Orleans rhythm and blues, Zydeco, rock and more, on Saturday, February 9.
As a back-up group, Rhythmtown Jive has worked with Bo Diddley, Big Joe Turner, Johnnie Johnson, Earl King, Long John Hunter and New Orleans rock & roll saxophone innovator Lee Allen. As individuals, the band’s credits are equally astonishing with various members working with Etta James, Dr. John, La Vern Baker, Otis Clay, Gary U.S. Bonds, Allen Tousaint, Elvin Bishop, Boz Scaggs, T-Bone Walker and Joe “Louis” Walker.
The food for the bash will be flown in from Louisiana: Crawfish Etouffe from Baton Rouge: red beans and rice with smoked Cajun sausage from Eunice; and, of course, King Cakes. $60, includes wine. Cornerstone Sonoma. 934.4090. Meadowcroftwines.com.
