Out of the nest

The objective of Sunday’s annual Sonoma Valley Christmas Bird Count for Kids, according to Sonoma Birding’s Tom Rusert, is to nurture future birders and conservationists while encouraging families to enjoy and respect nature together – “the basic ingredients of the grand old Audubon tradition.”

After binocular boot camp, kids 4-16 venture out with an experienced birder on a 90-minute hike, followed by a tally celebration. 8;30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sonoma Community Center. Reservations required at Sonomabirding.com or 939.8007.
