If you can’t say the name…

Shannon Veon Kase, AnJu, and Miyoko Sakatani bring “The Vagina Monologues,” Eve Enseler’s powerful and poignant celebration of femininity, to Andrews Hall on October 27 and 28.
The show is less shocking than it was upon its 1996 debut, but the frank treatment and description of the vagina, in contexts as diverse as rape, sex, birth and orgasm, is bracing. And still, to some, a little embarrassing. But as the opening monologue reads, “If you can’t say the name, you can’t come (in).”
Directing the production for Independent Cabaret Productions/Shakespeare at Stinson is Hector Correa, a 30-year veteran of the Bay Area theatre scene including acting credits with American Conservatory Theatre, Cal Shakes, San Francisco Shakes, and the Magic Theatre.
Describing the three-woman show, Correa said it manages to be feminist without man-hating, entertaining without being trite, and political without being earnest. “It’s undeniably fun and surprisingly enlightening.”
Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. shows are $20-$25, available at the door, 415.272.7992 or Brownpapertickets.com.
