Tribute and remembrance

A well-attended Sonoma tradition, the 54th annual Memorial Day observance was held Monday at Veterans Memorial Park.

Arriving to watch the Memorial Day events are Beatrice, Antonia and Nico Taormino with their dad, Jason.

Local Boy Scouts participated in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veteran's Cemetary in Sonoma.

Master of ceremonies, retired Marine Corps Reserve Col. William E. Peacock, anounces one of the event's guests of honor, Marine Corps Gen. Richard D. Hearney.

Surrounded by his family is retired Captian Frank Masuoka who served in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars. Captian Masuoka was recently rewarded with a Congressional Gold Medal.

The Rotary served up a free hamburger and hot dog lunch at the Vet's Building after the Memorial Day Ceremony.

Serving up ice cream after the Rotary's complimentary hamburger and hot dog lunch are Girl Scouts Megan Shipston, Claire McNairy and Sarah Hinchman.
