Mardi Gras at Meadowcroft

Sonoma residents Ronda and Michael Giangreco have been named King and Queen at the Meadowcroft Wines’ second annual Mardi Gras Celebration set for Saturday, February 18, noon to 4 p.m. at the tasting room.

The new royalty will receive their crowns, scepters and capes from last year’s King Ken Brown and Queen Michele Anna Jordan at the start of the Mardi Gras Celebration.

“We are thrilled to announce that Ronda and Mike Giangreco have agreed to become our Queen and King of this year’s Krewe,” said Tom Meadowcroft, owner and winemaker of Meadowcroft Wines. “They are both very community oriented as well as great ambassadors of the city of Sonoma.”

Ronda Giangreco, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis several years ago, embarked on a year long journey to combat the disease by preparing 52 weeks of Sunday dinners throughout all of 2010. Her story has been chronicled in the Sonoma Sun, Press Democrat, and other newspapers and she has written a book, “The Gathering Table – Defying Multiple Sclerosis with a Year of Pasta, Wine and Friends.” The book, with a forward by famed Napa Chef Michael Chiarello, will be released in March just in time for National Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week.

Michael Giangreco has worked as a newspaper executive and publisher of newspapers in California and Tennessee and now serves as the publisher of Wine Country This Week, a weekly publication serving the wine communities of Northern California as well as the Central Coast.

The event promises to be big fun by way of the Big Easy. The St. Gabriel’s Celestial Brass Band will return for its second Mardi Gras appearance and will lead the new King and Queen on a Second Line parade throughout the shops and the gardens of CornerStone Sonoma. Food this year will feature a Cochon du Lait (whole smoked pig), red beans & rice with Louisiana Cajun sausage, salad, French bread, as well as King Cakes brought in from New Orleans, and Louisiana bread pudding all of which is being prepared by Margie Brooke and her staff at Sonoma’s Community Café and Catering.

The Krewe of Meadowcroft Mardi Gras party is $55 per person in advance; the ticket price increases to $55 per person on Feb 11. The ticket price covers wine, food, music, parade participation and le bon temps. Reservations are strongly recommended as tickets to the event are limited. Order at 934-4090 or at Meadowcroft is located within CornerStone at 23574 Arnold Drive/Hwy 121.
