Watching him onscreen, Cary Grant is never not Cary Grant. And yet, he never fails to be completely in character, too. Even as a drama critic who learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal lunatics.
Frank Capra took the macabre premise (from a successful Broadway play) and, with Grant quipping and mugging all the while, crafted the 1944 gem “Arsenic and Old Lace.” The farce, complete with a gent who thinks he’s Theodore Roosevelt, plays the Sebastiani Theatre on Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 8 and 1 p.m. $8. 996.2020.
