It’s fast, it’s fresh and it’s a fabulous option for feeding your family. In business in Sonoma for the past five years, Planet Organics’ is still growing by leaps and bounds. The subscription-based grocery delivery service was built from the ground up by Sonoma local Lorene Reed 15 years ago in San Francisco. Today, her company delivers to 1500 households throughout the Bay Area bringing the best in organic produce, free-range meats and top quality dry goods, groceries and more.
For a minimum order of just $32, Planet Organics will deliver any combination of produce and groceries on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis to homes within a 60-mile radius of San Francisco. Customers are able to start and stop their service any time without penalty and best of all, delivery is always free.
“We partner with small local farms and suppliers to bring customers the very best products. We are a family-owned business and we wanted to make it easy for other families to eat healthy, fresh food all the time – not just when it’s convenient,” said Reed.
Reed originally started the business with just produce but quickly realized that many of her customers were looking for more. She added meats and dry goods, dairy items and more, enabling busy families to skip visits to the grocery store altogether if they so desire.
Customers can either decide what they want to have delivered or, if pinched for time or ideas can simply choose the “Lorene’s Produce Picks” selection. And Reed does her homework, searching out the best prices and produce and noting where items originate so customers know what’s what when ordering. According to her, even the least expensive $32 option packs a considerable amount of produce, giving serious bang for the buck for cost conscious consumers.
For Reed, the business is a labor of love. Her customers and employees are like family and, as a single mother of two, she works hard and involves her kids whenever possible. “My kids love the company and seeing themselves on the side of the delivery truck. It’s a very rewarding business for all of us.”
