Live music this weekend

Friday, Jan. 20

Rolando Morales
Jazz guitarist dips into eclectic grab bag. Presented by the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. 7 p.m. Plaza Bistro. 996.4466.

Chris Hanlin
Acoustic Americana and folk. 7:30 p.m. Kathmandu Corner. 996.1161.

David Thom Band
Traditional and original acoustic bluegrass quintet: Paul Shelasky, Andy Shaw, Brian Judd, Jeff King and Thom, the front man/guitarist. 8 p.m. Murphy’s Irish Pub, 935.0660.

Dick Dale
There’s more to the “King of the Surf Guitar” than “Pipeline” (rejuvenated by a duet with Stevie Ray Vaughan) and “Misirlou” (resurrected by the movie “Pulp Fiction”). Dale invented a genre – how many instrumentalists can say that? — by juicing up Middle Eastern and Eastern European melodies with incredibly fast and loud technique that, some say, predated heavy metal and the shredder-guitar tricks of Eddie Van Halen and company. Dale played so loud that Leo Fender had to invent new amps to withstand the onslaught. This gig should find Dale just as flashy as back in his surfing heyday, but not quite as loud. 8:30 p.m. $26. 8 p.m. Mystic Theatre, Petaluma. 765.2121.

Gayle Skidmore
Grammy nominated San Diego-based indie folk pop artist has just released her first full-length album/coloring book, “Make Believe.” 9 p.m. Hopmonk Tavern, 935-9100.
