Flipping for flapjacks

Aptly named “A Taste of Star Quality,” the Sonoma Valley High School Music Department’s 3rd annual pancake breakfast is almost here.  Set aside some time and some appetite between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Hall for some amazing multi-grain blueberry pancakes, live music, a wonderful silent auction and raffle!  Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $8 for children eight years and under.

Organized this year by student Lauren Popenoe for her senior project, the event will help raise money to send the music department to Anaheim to compete as well as take part in an opportunity at Disneyland to play in-studio to an animated feature made by Disney.  This is an incredible opportunity for the students to experience what it’s like to work as studio musicians.

Last year the pancake breakfast funded instrument repair and upkeep, as well as travel to the Heritage Festival in Anaheim where Sonoma’s bands and choirs competed against 70 other schools and swept away with silver medals and a bronze.

In addition to pancakes, music will be the highlight of the event and the lineup is as follows:

8 a.m. – Jon Popenoe and Corey Jennings  (guitar and harmonica duo)

9 a.m. – Adam Traum  (Americana, country blues)

10 a.m. – Jazz legends Mad and Eddie Duran

11 a.m. – EZKewl  (smooth jazz)

Noon -  Small ensembles of the SVHS choir, jazz and concert bands.

Once again Whole Foods Sonoma is helping with food donations.  Other donations are welcome including those for the silent auction such as hotel and restaurant gift certificates, spa visits and services, wine, etc.  For donations, please call Jon Popenoe at 338.0545.
