Friday’s contest: The Dragons come into tonight’s homecoming contest after two weeks on the road that couldn’t have yielded different results. After blowing out Elsie Allen, the Dragons were blown out by Windsor in a hard-hitting game that may leave the Dragons with some lingering injury concerns.
Another concern might be how the two teams fared against their only common opponent to-date, Terra Linda. The Dragons scraped out a last-minute 21-17 win over the Trojans in the season opener while the ‘Hounds thumped the Trojans 41-14 the following week. The ‘Hounds lone loss came in a 34-31 defeat at the hands of Fortuna (5-1).
Senior quarterback Sam Morgan, who was averaging 156 yards passing per game prior to the Windsor contest, is still searching for a complimentary receiver to take the pressure off of Christopher Swanson (18 catches, 428 yards).
Senior Max Offerman directs the Healdsburg attack and he has been solid, passing for 850 yards and eight touchdowns while completing nearly 60% of his passes. Charlie Conrad and Richard Grant are Offerman’s primary targets and the ground attack is led by Gerardo Cervantes (564 yards on 84 carries and six touchdowns). The Greyhounds are averaging 346 yards per game of total offense.
On defense Adam Hendrickson leads the way with 6.8 tackles per game and is supported by the duo of John Etchell and Nick Mariani.
Fun Facts: Coming into the season Greyhound coach Tom Kirkpatrick has never had a losing season and with last week’s win he now has stretched that streak to 20 years. Starting linebacker Hendrickson (5’9”, 165) is an All-State wrestler, but sheds nearly 20 pounds by wrestling season.
