Lions win SVBR title; two All-Star team advance

The Lions shutout the Stallions 3-0 to capture the 2011 Sonoma Valley Babe Ruth Championship after a series of post-season games played in sizzling heat at Arnold Field.

Ironically, the Lions fell to the Stallions 8-6 in the opening round of the playoffs before responding with a crisp and decisive victory to claim the title. The Lions had the top-seed in the playoff tournament by virtue of their first-place finish in the regular season.

The Stallions defeated the Moose 4-3 to gain a spot in the finals.
The Bears captured the American League title with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Warriors.

In the Lions win Jimmy Flatt improved to 6-0 with the win and yield only two hits along the way. Flatt finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, a run and a RBI. Other Lion hitters to single included Logan Onstott, Zach Parr, and Mitch Hood (who also picked up the save).

Both the SVBR 15 and 14-year old All-Stars emerged victorious in last weekend’s District 2 tournaments and will now advance to the Northern California finals. The 15’s won by defeating Ukiah once and Novato twice to advance.

The 14’s defeated Novato, Ukiah and North Bay to advance.

The 13’s opened their post-season with a win over Ukiah before falling to Novato and North Bay.
