The annual 4th of July parade kicked off Sonoma’s Independence Day celebration which ended with the annual fireworks show.
Emceeing the parade was Dave “Lumpy” Williams, who said he has been attending the parade for 35-plus years. Another long time attendee was John Gray, who has represented the American Legion at the parade for 30 years.
On the younger side were Hannah and Will Wales (ages eight and six) who showed off their pride by wearing brightly colored face paint, the handiwork of by Po Po the Clown. When asked why the 4th of July is celebrated, Hanna replied quite intelligently “It was the day the Americans won their independence from the British.”
Immersed in Americana was Kerstin Meyer, a foreign exchange student from Austria. She dressed head to toe in red white and blue. Meyer said the people of Sonoma are “very open and friendly as well as patriotic towards their country.”
