Perhaps it just took a change of scenery for the Sonoma Valley High School softball team to get on a hot streak.

After dropping a league contest 9-3 to first-place Petaluma the Lady Dragons traveled to Ukiah and ripped off three straight wins in two days to win the tournament.

The Lady Dragons rolled past Clear Lake (9-0) and Windsor (10-2) before winning in dramatic fashion over host Ukiah in the championship game.
Kendall Ashe, who finished with two hits, scored the winning run with two outs in the seventh inning for the win. The Lady Dragons rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the fifth inning and added a single run in the sixth before Ashe’s game-winner in the seventh.

The Lady Dragon bats were lively against Ukiah, and they needed to be to offset four Sonoma errors.

Amber Rose came through with a home run and Ashley Vail went two-for-four with a pair of RBI’s. Zoe Gaarder picked up the win, hurling a complete game. Lindsey Rocha, Megan McNeilly, Tali Soroker and freshman Samantha Richards all had hits in the Lady Dragon victory.

In the opening round the Lady Dragons blasted Clear Lake, scoring four of their nine runs in the fifth inning to break open a close game. The Lady Dragons pounded out 12 hits and did not commit an error in the win. Riley Ellis-Reis had three hits and Rocha, Richards and Rose each had a pair of hits. Soroker, Mia Stornetta and Ashley Vail each had a hit.

In the semifinals Sonoma met Windsor for the second time in 10 days and avenged an April 21 loss by jumping out to an early lead and coasting to the shutout victory. The Lady Dragons scored early and often, accumulating all 10 runs in the first four innings.

Rose, Richards and Vail each had two hits in the win over the Jaguars and Elli-Reis, Rocha, Anna Stewart and Vail each had a hit in the win. Megan McNeilly picked up the win in the game shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Records: El Molino 3-12 (1-8 SCL) Sonoma Valley 11-8 (3-5 SCL)
Teams: El Molino comes into today’s game riding a six-game losing streak and has a sputtering offense that has scored just 36 runs in 15 games. Kerri Rampone has a seven-game hitting streak for the Lions and is joined by Elizabeth Callagy to form the heart of the Lions batting order. Callagy is hitting .395 and leads the team in RBI’s and doubles.

Sonoma Valley is looking to build on its weekend success at the Ukiah Tournament to bolster their second-half run through the SCL. The Dragons won the first meeting between the two teams handily 11-1 on April 12. In the first meeting Sonoma Valley got monster games by Riley Ellis-Reis and Ashley Vail, each of who knocked in four runs and Megan McNeilly pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the win.
