Scattered dances with patches of comedy

The tune “Singing in the Rain” had been a hit years earlier, but when Gene Kelly reconceived it as a dance number for the 1952 film of the same name, the sequence became one of the most memorable routines in film history, one any lover of MGM musicals can’t pick up an umbrella without thinking about. The film, co-starring Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Conner, plays The Sebastiani Theatre on Monday, April 18 at 7 p.m., and again Wednesday, April 20, at 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the door and benefit the Sebastiani Theatre Foundation.
