A tail-wagging good time

Walkers both two-legged and four were out in force on Saturday, celebrating the incredible weather and the newly installed sidewalks throughout the Springs.  Brought together by the second annual Barkus in the Springs, more than 50 participants took part in a Mardi Gras-style parade where costumed dogs and humans competed for prizes such as best costume and owner-pet look-a-like. McClelland’s Dairy was on hand, bringing both a newborn calf and samples of their homemade butter.  The parade began at the Epicurean Connection where Sheana Davis hosted a cheese-rolling contest and provided treats for canines.

The parade traversed Highway 12, ending at Arroyo Veterinary Hospital where Arroyo owner Rhonda Stallings presided over the award ceremony.  A pet fair followed including numerous pet-related businesses and nonprofits providing additional gifts, toys and information concerning pet care, hygiene, diet, exercise and more.

Save the date for the third annual Barkus in the Springs, taking place on the first Saturday in February, 2012.
