Dr. Robert Cohen, a 23-year veteran of Sonoma Valley Hospital who has for the last five years been serving in dual administrative roles, as has stepped down from his position of Director of the Emergency Department.

“This was a difficult decision,” Cohen told hospital staff,  “but I found it to be necessary in order to devote my energies to the role of Chief Medical Officer and to spend more time with my family.”
Dr. Jared Hubbell has been named to the Director post, which sees up to nine thousand people a year. Cohen describes Hubbell as a skilled physician, impressively dedicated, and with all of the tools to become an exceptional leader.

Hubbell said, “Dr. Cohen has left big shoes to fill and I look forward to continuing his work to ensure excellent patient care in this Emergency Department now and as we expand to accommodate the needs of this community.”

Cohen said that as CMO he will continue to oversee the remaining tasks of equipping the new Emergency Department. The new ED, housed in what will be the new wing due for completion in 2013, is the centerpiece of the bond-funded seismic retrofit project.

Cohen will also continue to lead the clinical relationship between Sonoma Valley Hospital and Napa State Hospital.

The SVH Emergency Department has seen significant upgrades under Cohen’s directorship, including state of the art equipment and, most recently, a relationship with California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) to provide a telemedicine program for stroke patients.

The SVH emergency department sees eight to nine thousand people a year. In addition to the new state of the art equipment made possible by the SVH Foundation, the ED is currently undergoing a “face lift” for the improved comfort of patients and staff until the new building is complete.
