A woman in the 100 block of Patten Street zipped off to run a quick errand at about 9 a.m. Returning 10 minutes later, she noticed that behind the closed screen, the back door was wide open. Strange; it was closed when she left. Sure enough, a burglar – watching the house to time her moves? – had slipped in and grabbed her purse and an $800 computer. She initiated canceling her credit cards, only to learn that the thief had already tried to use her ATM card at an El Verano convenience store and, shortly thereafter, a Chevron in Petaluma. Both charges were denied. But another, $17.41 at McDonalds, did go through. Police describe the suspect as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, with a heavy build and two tattoos, a band on his left arm and another on his right shoulder.
