Community Harvest Festival throws annual garden party

Young Dillon Timmer makes a friend at last year’s harvest festival.

The Sonoma Garden Park opens its gates for the annual Community Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Festival, sponsored this year by Viansa Winery and Marketplace, will feature family friendly activities including a scarecrow building competition, tractor rides, arts and craft sales, meet a chicken, and food and drink. The Arts Guild of Sonoma will lead children’s craft activities and pumpkins and other fall produce will also be for sale at the Festival’s Harvest Market.

Celebrity judges, including City Councilmember Ken Brown, will preside over an old-fashioned pie contest. Pies will be judged for taste, appearance and crust with extra points given for using local and seasonal ingredients. Contestants must have pies at the Park no later than 12:30 p.m. Festival Day.

Musical entertainment will include Eleanor Decker and Arann Harris and The Farm Band. Eleanor Decker has been singing beautiful and fun songs of peace and nature with Sonoma Valley children for over ten years. A full schedule of entertainment and events is posted on Sonoma Ecology Center website

The Sonoma Garden Park is located at 19996 Seventh Street East. For more information about the Festival, contact Sandi Funke at (707) 996-0712 ext. 110, or email
